Barcadia New Orleans

Let me just say what a GREAT idea this place is. It combines your favorite things...food, drinks, and games! It's an awesome idea for sure. I popped in during one of my visits home in New Orleans. Me and my boyfriend went after hitting French Quarter Festival. It was a cool atmosphere. We went during the day so I'm interested in going during the evening to late-night hours. But anyways, I definitely enjoyed my meal. I had the Ahi Tuna wrap which comes with homemade chips. The wrap consisted of spring mix, fried wontons (yummy), carrots, pickled onions (I had these removed) and a sesame vinaigrette. The tuna was perfectly cooked and seasoned really well. That was a plus because some places cheat you out seasonings sometimes. But I must say for a place of this caliber, they did an excellent job. I was very pleased and couldn't complain.

Barcadia had a well-versed selection of beers to choose from and a wide range of liquors. I'd suggest this place for food or drinks or the games alone....or basically any combination of the three. So, whenever you get a chance hustle on down to the CBD and check it out.
I promise you won't be disappointed. You know I wouldn't steer you wrong...ESPECIALLY when it comes to food. Until next time, eat well!

Pub Fiction

In Midtown Houston there's a cool spot called Pub Fiction. It's a bar/restaurant. They have a great beer selection and a damn good homemade Sangria as well. I discovered this place one day after paying my cell phone bill right around the corner. I was on lunch in between classes. The service was cool, I sat at the bar. The bartender was very friendly, which I always appreciate as a former service industry worker myself. What I also liked about this place besides the food described below is its bar. I later won a happy hour party at this establishment and invited some classmates to participate. The drinks were poured to perfection. They have a really good happy hour menu. On the weekends, the place gets pretty packed and they offer valet parking as well. Even if you're not hungry, it's a great place to definitely hang out & kick back some cocktails.

Anywho...I absolutely love tacos...I could literally eat tacos everyday all day and not think twice. So I ordered the Carne Asada Tacos x3. You get three carne asada steak tacos with pico, and a DEICIOUS Texas Ale Queso on top. OMG....my eyes closed and my shoulders shimmied. The portion was just right, I was completely stuffed afterwards. Goodness in heavens did I love that meal. Also, they have these delicious little Mini Fajita Burritos, another delectable treat to the palate. Whenever you're in the area and have a chance, go check it out. I promise you won't be disappointed. You know I wouldn't steer you wrong...ESPECIALLY when it comes to food. Until next time, eat well!

Yahoo for Raku!

Sushi lovers & friends I have found us an oasis in which we can indulge. Located in Midtown on Louisiana Ave., Raku is a snazzy sushi spot. It's chic atmosphere and sophisticated feel makes you wanna sit down and relax. They have awesome drink specials daily, including half off sake bottles. They also have daily specials for sushi rolls created by the Chef.

On my visit, I went with a classmate and we actually split the meal. She enjoyed the chef's special roll and I enjoyed the fresh nigiri. We also split the truffle oil seafood fried rice. The rice was AMAZING, it had scallops and shrimp and it was flavorful and the perfect texture. The nigiri was SUPER fresh. My tastebuds danced with delight with every bite. I definitely encourage you all to go check it out. I promise you won't be disappointed. You know I wouldn't steer you wrong....ESPECIALLY when it comes to food! Until next time...EAT WELL!

Harry's Restaurant & Cafe

There's a little gem in Midtown Houston called Harry's Restaurant & Cafe. Located on Tuam street, Harry's provides a unique dining experience. Diners have the option of going through the cafeteria-style line; or they can be seated and order off the menu. Harry's offers breakfast, lunch & brunch options. There is something on the menu for everyone...even the vegetarians.

On my visit, I was on a quick lunch break in between classes. I went with a couple of classmates. I had their spin on chicken and waffles. It was 3 chicken tenders and a lovely Belgian waffle. The chicken tenders were very moist and flavorful and had a surprisingly spicy kick. The waffle was golden brown with crisp edges. My friends enjoyed their meal and I definitely enjoyed mine. We all were most pleased with how affordable the food was. I think I paid about $7 including tax. A SUPREME PLUS since I am a law student who is on a tight budget.

So, whenever you have a chance stop in at Harry's and I'm sure you will enjoy your experience. I promise you won't be disappointed. You know I wouldn't steer you wrong....ESPECIALLY when it comes to food! Until next time...EAT WELL!

Torchy's Tacos

In the River Oaks area of Houston, TX is a cool little taco shop called Torchy's Tacos. If it sounds familiar, it is a part of a small chain, with another location in Austin, TX. Torchy's is a funky little spot, complete with outdoor patio seating.

While out one day, I passed by and committed the name to memory, saying I would check it out one day. Well, a few weeks later I decided to drop in and have a taste. Because I had already looked up the menu I knew exactly what I wanted as I walked in the door. Although, while waiting in line some other options DEFINITELY caught my eye. I had two Beef Fajita Tacos and the Chips & Salsa, with an ice cold Dos Equis beer. The tacos were so filling and full of ingredients. Definitely not skimpy with the meat or peppers & onions....y'all know how I love my grilled onions...it got a bit messy, but so daggone delicious! It was so perfect. I am really looking forward to me imminent return.

So the next time you're in Houston, get on down to Torchy's Taco's and  grab a bite to eat. I promise you won't be disappointed. You know I wouldn't steer you wrong...ESPECIALLY when it comes to food. Until next time, eat well!

Crabs???? Yes, Please!!!

Just off the sandy white beaches of Pensacola, Florida is a cool spot called Crabs! We Got Em! They specialize in crabs...duh!!! You get to choose from King Crab, Dungeness Crab, Snow Crab and Blue Crabs. They boil 'em up East Coast style with a nice kick.

The atmosphere is very casual and relaxing. They even have an on site playground for kids to play. In addition, they have a full bar to pour up your favorite drinks; they have specialty drinks as well, including one called Diesel Fuel. *Drink at your own risk*

I've been to this little spot on two occasions and I was EXTREMELY satisfied each time. Initially, I had the King Crab legs....DELICIOUS!!!!! You get about 1 1/4 lbs for a reasonable price along with potatoes, corn and sausage if you would like. On this last visit, I had the Dungeness crab (pictured below), with potatoes and corn (no pork on my fork). I was very pleased with the presentation and most importantly the flavor and taste. I definitely suggest this place if you ever make it down to Pensacola Beach sometime. I promise you won't be disappointed. You know I wouldn't steer you wrong....ESPECIALLY when it comes to food! Until next time...EAT WELL!

La Guadalupana

Everyone knows my deep passion for Mexican and Tex-Mex food. Well, during a study session I happened upon this little place in the Montrose area of Houston,Texas. It's called La Guadalupana Bakery & Cafe. They make their own tortillas, chips and desserts. They use fresh ingredients in the food. I also don't recall seeing any grease on my plate either...AWESOME!

La Guadalupana is a ducked off little spot. It's on the side of the road but you'd miss it if you weren't paying attention. From the outside it doesn't look like much but once inside, you're in for such a treat.

I had the Tacos Al Carbon (pictured below), opted for no beans, rice only. Tacos Al Carbon are three steak tacos with lettuce, tomato, and cheese served on a lightly grilled flour tortilla. The service was really good, even though our server spoke very little English. I am already plotting on the enchiladas when I return.

So, hustle on down to La Guadalupana when you have time or drop by the next time you're in Houston for a tasty lunch, dinner or just for dessert. Trust me you won't be disappointed. You know I wouldn't steer you wrong....ESPECIALLY when it comes to food! Until next time...EAT WELL!
